Welcome to the West Herts Area Group of the Association of 16mm Narrow Gauge Modellers
The object of the Group is to promote narrow gauge railway modelling at approximately 16mm = 1ft (equivalent to 1/19 full size) mainly running on 32mm track for a prototype 2ft gauge or 45mm track to represent 3ft gauge prototypes. This scale of modelling is big enough to enable live steam locomotives to run on track in your own garden.
Members run live steam (coal, gas or meths fuelled) as well as battery powered models of internal combustion locomotives.

Over the summer months we run regularly on our members own garden lines as well as, on occasion, at the Brambleton Model Railway Club's extensive 16mm layout adjacent to the Highfield Oval in Ambrose Lane, Harpenden, Hertfordshire.

The opportunity to meet with like minded modellers, exchange ideas and experiences has created a very friendly local group where all levels of skills and interest are welcomed.Whether you are already a committed Narrow Gauge Modeller of or just interested in exploring the subject, possibly before embarking on building your own garden line, you will receive a warm welcome to our group meetings.

At our meetings the opportunity exists for anyone new to the hobby to see and compare the performance of some of the wide range of commercially available models, as owned by group members, or admire the skills of those who can and do  construct their own steamers from scratch  both may be the catalyst for getting started in this fascinating hobby. Advice is freely available to guests as well as members.

Photographs and videos of some of our members own garden lines are included in the Gallery section of this site.
If  you would like to come along to some of our meetings please contact Peter Hewitt to check where and when we are running before you turn up.
